User Personas
Introduction
In Product, it’s imperative to keep in mind who we are designing for. We are not designing for a specific individual, but for a group of people with shared wants and needs. If we want to be able to easily reference who our users are, without digging through a ton of interview data, a common strategy is to create user personas.
A user persona is an abstract representation of the users for which we are designing. We take traits from all the users we’ve researched/interviewed and combine them into a new fictional character representing everyone as a singular whole.
There are many benefits for utilizing user personas within our team. As idealized representations of our target audiences, user personas combine visual design with real data we’ve gathered from users, in order to help us cultivate empathy for them. Going forward, these user personas can serve as a point of reference for when we need to remind ourselves of who we are designing for and why.
