D-1: New Hire Email

Hi {insert name}

I just wanted to take a minute to officially welcome you to the Product team! We are really excited to have you on board.

We are a 100% remote company, so for Day 1, please “show up” to our 1:1 via Google Meet at {9 am US Central Time, Date}. You’ll be getting a meeting invite via email so please save and accept.

Your Day 1 will look something like this:

  • {9am-10am}: 1:1 with me.

  • We’ll spend some time getting to know each other better and discuss the job responsibilities, monthly and weekly goals, and working norms

  • {10:30am-11:30am}: welcome call with Product and Engineering Leadership

  • 11:30am-4:30pm: Set up and work time

  • Time to get settled in, set up your accounts, and familiarize yourself with our systems. You’ll want to have a copy of your ID and proof of work eligibility to complete your HR paperwork

  • You’ll have a guided onboarding plan that will take you through async content delivered via our LMS and Confluence

  • If you have any questions during this time, please feel free to reach out to me, HR, or IT via Google Chat.

  • {4:30pm-5pm} Buddy Chat

  • I would also like to take this opportunity to introduce you to your onboarding ‘buddy’ Christy Cocchia-Barbaree (copied on this email). Christy will be meeting with you regularly during onboarding to answer any questions you have and ensure you have a great experience

Between now and then you’ll get an email from our friends in IT to set up your work accounts so please keep an eye out for that. Our main communication tool is Google Workspace (Chat and Meet), so you may want to download the desktop and/or mobile applications if you don’t already have it (or an Android device).

That’s a lot about Day 1, I did also want to take some time to give you a rough idea of what you can expect once onboarding is complete.

  • The majority of your time will be spent on {insert main activities}

  • You will spend approximately 20% of your week each week working on tasks related to your professional development. That includes things like coaching and training, but also includes time for self development. I take professional development very seriously and take pride in being able to help people progress through their careers.

  • You will have regular 1:1s and check in chats with your manager (me) where we discuss everything from performance, to coaching, to your career path plan.

  • Finally, you will have the option to participate in a number of cultural events like book clubs, meditation sessions, cooking classes, and virtual happy hours. While these events are 100% optional, I encourage you to attend a couple and see what you think. After all, our culture is only as strong as we make it.

If you need assistance with anything in the meantime, please don’t hesitate to ask. And once again, welcome to the team!

Sincerely,
